The Greater Chennai Corporation has already undertaken the plans to redesign and transform the iconic Loop Road along Marina Beach into an eco-friendly, pedestrian-friendly urban space. The 2.55 km stretch, from the Lighthouse to Greenways Junction, is all set for a major overhaul with a view to alleviating parking, traffic congestion, and vending problems.

The proposed project includes pathways for pedestrians, cycle tracks, and green belts. All of these are set to upgrade the accessibility and the aesthetics while maintaining compliance with the norms set by CRZ and NGT.

It will be an environmental-friendly water front where play and enjoyment are blended harmoniously, yet providing improvement in the livelihoods of local fisher folk and vendors towards a lively and vibrant urban ecosystem. The Loop Road makeover is expected to elevate Chennai’s urban infrastructure and serve as a model for sustainable waterfront development.
