Jindal (India) Expands Colour-Coated Steel Capacity to Support India’s White Goods Growth

Jindal (India) Limited, a leading player in the steel sector and part of the renowned BC Jindal Group, has taken a significant step toward strengthening its presence in the colour-coated steel segment. The company has announced the commissioning of an additional 0.6 million metric tonnes (MT) of manufacturing capacity at its facility in West Bengal. This expansion, backed by an investment of approximately Rs 1,500 crore, aims to cater to the surging demand from India’s white goods and consumer durables industry.

With this new capacity addition, Jindal (India) is set to enhance its supply of premium colour-coated steel sheets to major Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) such as LG, Whirlpool, and Godrej. These high-quality steel sheets are widely used in manufacturing washing machines, refrigerators, and air conditioners — key categories driving growth in India’s consumer durables market.

The expansion is expected to increase the company’s output by 60%, translating into a projected 20% revenue growth in the current financial year. Colour-coated steel sheets now account for nearly 70% of Jindal (India)’s total sales, and the company anticipates this share to rise to 75% by FY26.

This strategic move aligns with the growing momentum in India’s white goods sector, which continues to benefit from rising disposable incomes, rapid urbanization, and government support through initiatives such as the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme. As consumer demand expands across both urban and semi-urban markets, the need for durable, high-quality steel components in appliances has seen a sharp increase.

Jindal (India)’s investment reflects a forward-looking approach to cater to these evolving market dynamics while maintaining a strong foothold in the domestic value-added steel segment. The company’s focus on innovation, quality, and sustainability positions it as a key enabler of India’s manufacturing growth story.

By ramping up capacity and reinforcing partnerships with leading appliance brands, Jindal (India) is poised to play a pivotal role in supporting India’s fast-growing white goods ecosystem.
