The proposed Hyderabad–Chennai High Speed Rail Corridor has witnessed a significant alignment change, with the National High Speed Rail Corridor Ltd (NHSRCL) revising the route to better align with Telangana’s infrastructure and economic development plans. The updated alignment is expected to reduce the corridor length within Telangana from 236 km to 123 km, substantially lowering land acquisition requirements while supporting strategic projects planned by the state government.
According to officials, the earlier alignment was proposed to pass through Shamshabad, Batasingaram, Narketpally, Suryapet and Khammam before entering Andhra Pradesh. However, ongoing surveys indicate that the revised route will now run from Shamshabad through Future City, the proposed Dry Port, Halia and Vadapalli.
The revised alignment is expected to complement Telangana’s long term vision for industrial growth, logistics infrastructure and urban development. A major highlight of the new proposal is the inclusion of a dedicated station at the proposed Dry Port, which is being planned as a key inland logistics hub to facilitate cargo movement, storage and customs clearance operations.
NHSRCL has proposed four bullet train stations within Telangana, located at Future City, Dry Port, Halia and Vadapalli. Three of these stations will be situated in Nalgonda district, potentially boosting connectivity and economic activity across the region.
Another important component of the project is the proposed Operational Control Centre and maintenance depot at Shamshabad. The facility is expected to serve as the central command hub for future high speed rail services connecting Hyderabad with Chennai, Bengaluru and Pune.
The revised alignment is also expected to strengthen integration with Telangana’s Future City project, which is being developed as a next generation urban and economic zone. Improved connectivity through high speed rail could attract investments, support industrial expansion and enhance passenger mobility across southern India.
With surveys progressing on the revised route, the Hyderabad–Chennai bullet train project marks another important step in India’s expanding high speed rail network and the continued development of modern transportation infrastructure.
