Chennai Port Maduravoyal Elevated Corridor Set For November 2027 Opening

The long awaited Chennai Port Maduravoyal elevated corridor is expected to become operational by November 2027, bringing renewed focus to one of Chennai’s most important urban infrastructure projects. The four lane elevated corridor is being developed to improve direct connectivity between Chennai Port and Maduravoyal, while easing traffic movement across key city routes.

According to S. Viswanathan, Chairperson of the Chennai Port Authority, the project has currently achieved around 25 to 27 percent physical progress. He said construction work is moving at a faster pace and expressed confidence that the corridor would meet the planned completion schedule.

The ₹3,570 crore project is being executed by the National Highways Authority of India. Once completed, the corridor is expected to provide a dedicated road link for port bound vehicles, especially container trucks and heavy commercial traffic. This is expected to reduce congestion on city roads and improve logistics efficiency between Chennai Port and important transport corridors.

Chennai Port is also investing ₹37.18 crore in internal road and intersection improvement works to support smooth connectivity with the upcoming elevated corridor. These works are expected to improve vehicle circulation inside and around the port, ensuring better movement of cargo once the main corridor becomes operational.

The Chennai Port Maduravoyal corridor has been a long delayed project, but its revival is seen as a major boost for Chennai’s logistics and trade ecosystem. The project is expected to help exporters, importers, transport operators and industries that depend on faster cargo movement through the port.

For Chennai’s real estate and infrastructure landscape, the corridor is also significant. Better connectivity between the port, industrial zones and western parts of the city could support commercial activity, warehousing demand and transport linked development along the route.

With nearly one fourth of the work completed, the project has entered a crucial execution phase. If completed as scheduled in November 2027, the elevated corridor could become a key infrastructure asset for Chennai, strengthening the city’s role as a major logistics, trade and industrial hub in South India.
