BirlaNu has announced a major step in its manufacturing expansion with the launch of a new greenfield fibre cement board plant in Nellore, Andhra Pradesh. The project marks a significant milestone in the company’s strategic vision to strengthen its presence in the building materials sector while contributing to regional industrial growth.
The first phase of the project involves an investment of approximately Rs 127 crore. This phase will focus on establishing a state-of-the-art facility designed with advanced, sustainable manufacturing technologies. One of the plant’s key highlights is its use of fly ash sourced from coal-based thermal power stations. By adopting fly ash-based production, the company not only reduces industrial waste but also supports circular economy principles that are increasingly vital in the construction materials industry.
BirlaNu expects the new plant to generate nearly 600 direct and indirect employment opportunities in Nellore and surrounding regions. This workforce expansion is expected to boost the local economy, create new skill development avenues, and strengthen Andhra Pradesh’s position as an emerging industrial hub.
Beyond manufacturing fibre cement boards, the company has planned a robust second-phase expansion. The next phase will include dedicated units for PVC pipes, fittings, and construction chemicals, thereby transforming the Nellore facility into an integrated manufacturing campus. This expansion aligns with the growing demand for diversified building materials across India’s construction and real estate sectors, including southern markets such as Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Karnataka.
Speaking about the development, Managing Director and CEO Akshat Seth said the new Nellore plant represents an important chapter in BirlaNu’s growth journey. He emphasised that the facility reinforces the company’s manufacturing footprint, supports sustainable production, and delivers meaningful employment to the region.
With rising demand for fibre cement boards in housing, commercial construction, interiors, and exports, BirlaNu’s new project positions the company to serve both domestic and global markets more efficiently. The Nellore plant is expected to play a strategic role in strengthening supply chains, ensuring consistent product availability, and supporting India’s rapidly evolving building materials landscape.
