JSW Cement returned to profit in the first quarter of the 2026-27 financial year, helped by stronger revenue growth, although operating profitability remained under pressure during the quarter.

The cement maker reported a consolidated net profit of ₹160.64 crore for Q1 FY27, compared with a loss of ₹1,356.17 crore in the same quarter a year earlier. The year-ago loss, however, included an exceptional charge of ₹1,466.38 crore, making a direct comparison of reported profit less representative of the company’s underlying performance.

On a sequential basis, profit declined 56.7% from ₹371.33 crore reported in the fourth quarter of FY26.

Revenue from operations provided a stronger picture. JSW Cement recorded ₹1,896.41 crore during the June quarter, up 21.6% from ₹1,559.82 crore in Q1 FY26. Revenue was broadly stable compared with the previous quarter, increasing marginally from ₹1,894.99 crore.

The improvement in revenue did not translate into similar growth at the operating level. Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation, or EBITDA, stood at ₹299 crore in Q1 FY27, down 18.2% from ₹323 crore in the corresponding quarter last year.

EBITDA also declined from ₹365 crore in the March quarter of FY26, representing a sequential fall of about 4.9%.

As a result, JSW Cement’s EBITDA margin narrowed to 15.7% in the June quarter from 20.7% a year earlier. The margin was also lower than the 19.3% recorded in the preceding quarter.

The results indicate that while the company continued to benefit from higher operating revenue, profitability was affected by pressure at the operating level. The sequential decline in both EBITDA and profit highlights the challenges facing margins despite the year-on-year improvement in revenue.

JSW Cement shares closed 0.41% higher at ₹131.08 on the National Stock Exchange on August 13. The company announced its quarterly results after market hours.

The stock has declined more than 1% over the past week and around 5% over the past month. On a year-to-date basis, however, it remained higher by about 9%. The shares had touched a 52-week high of ₹162.15 on September 4, 2025, and a low of ₹106.65 on December 4, 2025.

With revenue continuing to grow but operating margins facing pressure, investors will closely watch how JSW Cement manages costs and profitability through the remaining quarters of FY27.
