Ramco Cements has completed the de-bottlenecking work at its integrated Jayanthipuram plant in Andhra Pradesh, increasing the facility’s clinker production capacity and cement grinding capacity.
Following the upgrade, clinker capacity at the plant has risen from 4.61 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) to 5.62 MTPA. Cement grinding capacity has also increased from 3.65 MTPA to 4.38 MTPA.
The capacity enhancement has been achieved through structural de-bottlenecking rather than a large-scale greenfield expansion. The company has positioned the project as a capital-efficient measure aimed at improving the balance between clinker production and cement grinding at the facility.
The earlier capacity mismatch meant that a significant portion of the clinker produced at Jayanthipuram had to be transferred to other locations for grinding or stored for later use. With additional grinding capacity now available at the same plant, Ramco Cements can process a larger share of its clinker locally.
The development is also expected to help the company reduce inter-plant clinker movement and associated logistics expenses. Jayanthipuram is an important facility for Ramco Cements’ operations in southern India, where the company has a substantial share of its sales.
At the company level, clinkerisation capacity has now reached 16.95 MTPA, while cement grinding capacity stands at 27.17 MTPA. The latest expansion at Jayanthipuram forms part of Ramco Cements’ broader capacity expansion plans, with the company targeting aggregate cement capacity of 31.14 MTPA.
The upgrade comes at a time when cement manufacturers in South India continue to navigate competitive pricing conditions and fluctuations in fuel and logistics costs. Improving the utilisation and balance of existing assets can therefore play an important role in controlling operating expenses.
During Financial Year 2025–26, Jayanthipuram recorded clinker utilisation of around 84%, compared with cement grinding utilisation of about 57%, highlighting the capacity imbalance that the latest project addresses.
The company has also been expanding its presence across construction materials, including its construction chemicals business. The Jayanthipuram upgrade, however, specifically strengthens its core cement manufacturing infrastructure.
With the additional grinding capacity now operational, Ramco Cements is expected to have greater flexibility in managing clinker production and cement dispatches from the facility. The company’s ability to benefit from the additional capacity will continue to depend on cement demand, realisations and input cost trends across the southern markets.
