Coimbatore-based Craftsman Automation Ltd has announced plans to invest ₹250 crore in a new manufacturing facility at Hosur in Tamil Nadu, strengthening its aluminium products business as demand from automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) continues to grow across southern India.
The investment, disclosed in a regulatory filing, will be executed in two phases. The company will initially invest around ₹100 crore in the first phase, followed by an additional ₹150 crore during the second phase of development. The facility is expected to be commissioned within six to eight months.
Craftsman Automation is one of India’s established manufacturers of aluminium casting products and powertrain components, catering to both the automotive and industrial engineering sectors. Its products are supplied to several leading two-wheeler and passenger vehicle manufacturers, making the company an important player in the domestic automotive supply chain.
According to the company, the expansion has become necessary as its existing aluminium products division is currently operating at nearly 85 percent capacity utilisation. With customer demand continuing to increase, the additional production capacity is expected to help the company support future business requirements while improving manufacturing efficiency.
Hosur has emerged as one of Tamil Nadu’s fastest-growing industrial hubs, attracting significant investments from automotive manufacturers and component suppliers. The city’s strategic location, well-developed industrial infrastructure and strong connectivity make it an attractive destination for new manufacturing projects serving the southern Indian market.
Industry experts believe continued investments in automotive component manufacturing reflect growing confidence in India’s vehicle production ecosystem, supported by increasing domestic demand and expanding export opportunities. Capacity additions by component manufacturers also play a vital role in strengthening the country’s manufacturing capabilities and improving supply chain resilience.
Once operational, the new Hosur facility is expected to enhance Craftsman Automation’s production capacity, improve delivery capabilities for automotive OEMs and reinforce the company’s long-term growth strategy in the aluminium products segment.
