Hindalco Industries, the metals flagship of the Aditya Birla Group, has announced plans to invest ₹50,000 crore in India over the next three years as part of a major expansion strategy aimed at strengthening its upstream and downstream businesses. Alongside this investment, the company is also evaluating another ₹50,000 crore worth of future projects, taking its overall investment pipeline to nearly ₹1 lakh crore.

The proposed investments reflect Hindalco’s long-term confidence in India’s growing industrial and manufacturing sectors, particularly the increasing demand for aluminium and advanced material solutions across infrastructure, transportation, renewable energy, construction and engineering industries.

A significant portion of the planned capital expenditure will be directed towards expanding production capacities across the aluminium value chain while improving operational efficiency and ensuring long-term availability of critical raw materials. The company is also focusing on developing future-ready manufacturing capabilities that can support India’s rapidly expanding industrial ecosystem.

As part of its ongoing expansion programme, Hindalco is progressing with the expansion of the Aditya Alumina Refinery, one of its key upstream projects. The company is also preparing to commence coal production from the Chakla and Bandha captive coal mines next year, which is expected to improve fuel security and reduce production costs.

In addition, the Meenakshi captive coal mine is scheduled to become operational during the financial year 2028-29. Once commissioned, the mine is expected to further strengthen the company’s raw material security while improving overall cost competitiveness for its aluminium operations.

Industry experts believe Hindalco’s investment strategy comes at a time when India is witnessing strong demand for metals driven by large-scale infrastructure development, urbanisation, renewable energy projects, electric mobility and manufacturing growth under various government initiatives.

The company’s continued investments are expected to enhance domestic production capacity, support supply chain resilience and create new employment opportunities across multiple regions. The expansion programme also reinforces Hindalco’s position as one of India’s leading aluminium producers while supporting the country’s broader goal of becoming a global manufacturing hub for value-added metals and advanced materials.

With a potential investment pipeline of ₹1 lakh crore, Hindalco is positioning itself for long-term growth while contributing to India’s industrial development and strengthening the nation’s self-reliance in strategic metals manufacturing.
