Tamil Nadu is preparing to expand its industrial footprint with plans to establish a dedicated industrial corridor and a research and development (R&D) centre in the Delta region. The initiative is part of the state’s broader strategy to promote balanced regional development while attracting investments in high-value manufacturing sectors.

Speaking at the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Southern Region conference in Coimbatore, Industries Minister S. Keerthana said the government is committed to creating a transparent and investor-friendly ecosystem that will position Tamil Nadu as one of India’s most preferred destinations for advanced industries.

The proposed industrial corridor is expected to unlock new opportunities in the Delta region by improving industrial infrastructure, encouraging private investment and supporting the growth of manufacturing clusters. The accompanying R&D centre will focus on innovation, technology development and industry collaboration, helping businesses adopt modern manufacturing practices and enhance competitiveness.

The government has identified several future-oriented sectors as key growth drivers, including electric mobility, clean energy, artificial intelligence and advanced manufacturing. These industries are expected to play an important role in creating high-quality employment, increasing exports and strengthening Tamil Nadu’s industrial economy over the coming years.

Another major focus area is workforce development. The state plans to evaluate the industrial strengths and opportunities of every district and align investment promotion accordingly. Educational institutions will work closely with industry to provide skill development programmes that match the evolving needs of manufacturers and technology-driven businesses.

This district-specific approach aims to ensure that industries have access to a skilled workforce while creating employment opportunities closer to people’s hometowns. It also supports the government’s vision of promoting inclusive industrial growth across Tamil Nadu instead of concentrating investments in a few urban centres.

Industry stakeholders believe that the proposed industrial corridor and R&D centre will further enhance Tamil Nadu’s reputation as a leading manufacturing hub. With continued investments in infrastructure, innovation and skill development, the state is well positioned to attract both domestic and global investors seeking long-term growth opportunities in India’s rapidly evolving industrial landscape.
