Chennai-based Johnson Lifts has acquired 39 acres of land at Sengadu near Chennai for ₹125 crore as part of its long-term growth strategy aimed at strengthening manufacturing capabilities and expanding production capacity. The company plans to invest around ₹200 crore in the first phase of the project, which will support the production of high-speed elevators and advanced elevator and escalator systems.

According to company officials, the new manufacturing facility is expected to begin construction in 2028. The first phase investment includes the cost of land acquisition as well as the installation of manufacturing equipment required for the facility. The land transaction was facilitated by global real estate consultancy JLL.

Johnson Lifts is currently focused on expanding its existing manufacturing unit, with the ongoing expansion scheduled for completion by September 2027. Once operational, the new Sengadu facility will primarily manufacture high-speed elevators, while a portion of the company’s escalator production will also be shifted to the new plant. This move is expected to improve operational efficiency, enhance production capacity and support future business growth.

The company is targeting revenue of ₹4,000 crore during the current financial year, compared to ₹3,500 crore recorded in the previous fiscal. Despite positive market demand, the company remains cautious about the impact of global geopolitical developments and rising raw material prices on future business conditions.

Johnson Lifts has established a strong presence in India’s vertical transportation sector and currently commands nearly 50 percent market share in metro rail escalator installations across the country. The company has installed 3,396 escalators out of the 6,942 deployed in metro stations nationwide.

Its landmark projects include the New Parliament House, the Pamban Bridge and the Statue of Unity. The company currently manufactures approximately 18,000 elevators and 1,000 escalators annually and has installed more than two lakh elevators and over 7,000 escalators across India.

The latest expansion reflects Johnson Lifts confidence in the growing infrastructure, real estate and urban mobility sectors, while reinforcing Chennai’s position as an important manufacturing hub for advanced building technologies.
