Volvo Trucks India has strengthened its presence in the country’s mining equipment segment with the launch of the new FMX Edge off-road dump truck. The vehicle was unveiled at the company’s manufacturing facility in Hoskote near Bengaluru and has been developed specifically to address the evolving requirements of India’s mining industry.

The launch marks another milestone for Volvo Trucks India as the company continues to expand its FMX platform portfolio. The FMX range has already established a strong presence across mining sites in the country, with more than 3,000 FMX500 8×4 trucks operating in various mining and infrastructure projects over the last five years.

The newly introduced FMX Edge has been designed to improve productivity, safety and operational efficiency in demanding mining environments. The truck comes with a 31.2 cubic metre SAE heap body capacity and a wider 2.8 metre body configuration. This enables better compatibility with large excavators and allows operators to transport higher volumes of overburden material more efficiently.

Mining operations often require equipment capable of performing in challenging terrain and under heavy load conditions. To address these requirements, Volvo Trucks India has equipped the FMX Edge with advanced stability systems, enhanced safety features and improved load management technologies. These features are expected to help mining companies optimise fleet performance while reducing operational downtime.

According to the company, the FMX Edge was developed using extensive feedback and operational insights gathered from mining customers, project engineers and maintenance teams working across different regions of India. This customer-driven approach has helped create a vehicle that is better aligned with real-world mining challenges.

Volvo Trucks operations in India are managed through VE Commercial Vehicles, a joint venture between Volvo Group and Eicher Motors. As mining activity continues to grow across the country, the introduction of the FMX Edge is expected to support higher productivity, improved safety standards and more efficient material handling across mining projects.
