Andhra Pradesh has announced the revival of major welfare schemes for construction workers, bringing relief to thousands of labourers dependent on the building and infrastructure sector. Labour Minister Vasamsetti Subhash said the state government has restored financial assistance measures covering marriage, maternity, natural death compensation and funeral support.

The announcement was made during the Srama Sakthi and Best Management Awards programme held in Vijayawada. According to the minister, eligible construction workers will receive ₹20,000 as marriage assistance, ₹20,000 as maternity benefit, ₹60,000 as compensation in case of natural death and ₹20,000 as funeral assistance.

Subhash said the coalition government is giving equal importance to workers and managements while focusing on labour welfare, industrial growth and employment generation. He added that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has placed workers’ welfare, safety, healthcare and job creation among the government’s top priorities.

The minister said a strong and secure workforce is essential for the state’s development. He urged industries to strictly follow workplace safety standards, noting that workers depend on employers for their safety while performing duties at construction sites and industrial units.

The government is also planning to strengthen employment support through Labour Addas across Andhra Pradesh. These centres will provide employment assistance, rest areas, food, washrooms and skill training facilities for workers. The move is expected to improve working conditions and provide better access to support services for daily wage and construction workers.

Subhash said the government would spend ₹250 crore on health screening programmes for workers. Modern ESI hospitals are also being established in Tirupati, Achyutapuram, Guntur, Kurnool and Visakhapatnam. In addition, proposals have been prepared for 30 new ESI dispensaries across the state.

The minister said Andhra Pradesh is attracting investments through Ease of Doing Business and Speed of Doing Business policies. These initiatives are expected to create employment opportunities and support the government’s larger target of generating 20 lakh jobs.

The revival of construction worker welfare schemes is expected to improve social security, healthcare access and financial support for labourers involved in the state’s growing infrastructure and real estate development.
