The Karnataka government is taking a major leap toward decentralizing industrial growth by proposing a massive five hundred acre industrial hub in Mandya district. This ambitious project marks a significant expansion from the original plan which focused on a much smaller standalone facility. At the heart of this development will be a specialized center for the Automotive Research Association of India also known as ARAI.
State Industries Minister MB Patil recently held discussions with Union Heavy Industries Minister HD Kumaraswamy to refine the vision for this region. Both leaders agreed that creating a comprehensive industrial ecosystem would be far more beneficial than just building a simple research outpost. By scaling up the land area the state aims to attract a diverse range of players including auto component manufacturers and electric vehicle startups.
Officials are currently scouting for the perfect location to house this massive park. One of the primary sites under consideration is a one hundred five acre plot near Basaralu which was originally earmarked for the ARAI facility. Additionally a larger four hundred twenty five acre land parcel near Belluru along the Bengaluru Mangaluru National Highway is being evaluated for its excellent connectivity. Other potential locations include areas near Pandavapura and the existing Thubinakere industrial zone.
The inclusion of the ARAI center is a strategic move to provide world class testing and certification services within the state. With an estimated investment of five hundred crore rupees for this facility alone the project is expected to draw significant private investment. Beyond the automotive sector the government is also looking to accommodate Andrew Yule Company Limited for their heavy electrical equipment manufacturing which could occupy up to fifty acres.
This initiative is part of a broader strategy to move industrial development away from Bengaluru and into other regions. Mandya is ideally located between Bengaluru and Mysuru making it a prime candidate for such growth. As the government reviews land availability and infrastructure needs the project is set to become a cornerstone of the industrial map of Karnataka
