Andhra Pradesh has taken a significant administrative step with the official release of its new state map featuring 28 districts, formally marking Amaravati as the sole capital of the state. The updated map, released by the State Disaster Management Agency, comes shortly after Parliament approved the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, giving formal recognition to Amaravati as the only capital city.

This development marks a major milestone in the state’s governance structure, more than a decade after the bifurcation of the erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh. The new map reflects recent administrative changes introduced by the TDP-led government under Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, aimed at improving governance efficiency and regional planning.

The total number of districts in Andhra Pradesh has now increased from 26 to 28 with the creation of two new districts, Polavaram and Markapuram. Polavaram district has been carved out from the Ramachodavaram and Chinturu revenue divisions of Alluri Sitharama Raju district, while Markapuram has been formed from the Markapuram and Kanigiri revenue divisions of Prakasam district.

The Cabinet had approved the revised district reorganisation plan in December 2025, along with several policy and administrative reforms. Officials stated that the reorganisation was carried out based on public feedback and to ensure better administrative reach, faster service delivery, and stronger planning for infrastructure and development projects.

The formal marking of Amaravati in Guntur district as the sole capital is expected to provide greater clarity for future investments, infrastructure development, and governance operations. The move is also likely to have a positive impact on real estate, institutional development, and public infrastructure planning across the capital region.

The release of the new map is being seen as a strategic step toward strengthening administrative transparency and creating a clear roadmap for Andhra Pradesh’s future growth.
