Amaravati, the greenfield capital city of Andhra Pradesh, has once again moved to the centre of the state’s development agenda, with Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu asserting that no force can halt its progress. Addressing the media in Amaravati, Naidu said the city’s major construction works are expected to be completed by 2028, marking a significant milestone in the state’s infrastructure roadmap.

The Chief Minister stated that Amaravati has become “unstoppable” following Parliament’s passage of the Bill granting legal status to the capital. He described this development as a major victory for the five crore people of Andhra Pradesh and a reaffirmation of the people’s aspirations for a world-class administrative and economic hub.

Naidu also highlighted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who had originally laid the foundation stone for Amaravati and later returned after the NDA government resumed construction activities in 2024, is expected to inaugurate key projects in 2029. This timeline, according to the state government, reflects renewed momentum in the long-delayed capital development works.

He criticised the previous administration for failing to resolve pending issues linked to the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh and for pushing the state into a severe debt burden. In contrast, Naidu said the present coalition government is balancing development and welfare through a structured short-term, medium-term and long-term strategy.

A major thrust is being placed on infrastructure development, which the Chief Minister described as the primary driver of economic growth. He expressed confidence that Andhra Pradesh can achieve a $2.4 trillion economy by 2047, with Amaravati serving as the central growth engine in this vision.

The renewed focus on Amaravati is expected to drive investments in real estate, commercial infrastructure, transport networks and public institutions, further strengthening its role as a strategic urban development project in South India.
