Bengaluru East City Corporation (BECC) has taken possession of around 14 acres of land valued at approximately Rs 510 crore to support the widening of major and sub arterial roads across key areas in the city’s eastern region. The move is part of a broader effort to improve road infrastructure and ease traffic congestion in rapidly growing technology corridors.

According to BECC Commissioner D S Ramesh, the civic body has already taken over 52 properties as part of the ongoing land acquisition drive within the corporation’s jurisdiction. The acquired land is primarily located along important stretches such as ITPL Main Road, Whitefield Main Road and parts of Doddanekkundi. These areas are known for high traffic volumes due to the presence of major IT parks, residential hubs and commercial developments.

The land acquisition has also included parcels reserved for a proposed road link connecting the Outer Ring Road with the Peripheral Ring Road. This corridor is expected to play a key role in improving connectivity between Bengaluru’s eastern technology cluster and other parts of the city.

Officials said the lands were obtained through relinquishment deeds as well as parcels identified under the Revised Master Plan 2015 for road widening. Based on government guideline values, the 14 acres of land secured by the civic body is estimated to be worth around Rs 510 crore.

To safeguard the acquired land and prevent encroachments, BECC plans to install signboards indicating that the property belongs to the corporation and has been reserved for road widening and infrastructure development.

The land will be used to expand arterial and sub arterial roads, develop footpaths and create dedicated cycle tracks wherever feasible. These upgrades are expected to significantly improve traffic flow and commuter safety while strengthening the city’s transport infrastructure.

Officials noted that the eastern part of Bengaluru has witnessed rapid urbanisation and rising traffic density over the past decade. Strengthening the capacity of major roads has therefore become critical to support the region’s continued growth and ensure smoother mobility for residents and daily commuters.
