RPP Infra Projects Limited has strengthened its presence in Tamil Nadu with a fresh work order worth Rs 52.17 crore from the State Water Resources Department for flood mitigation works in Semmancheri, Chennai. The project is linked to the development of the proposed Global Sports City and is expected to be completed within 12 months.

According to the company’s regulatory filing, the scope of work includes formation of new tanks, construction of peripheral earthen drains, development of cut and cover channels, and capacity enhancement of surrounding water bodies. These measures are aimed at improving stormwater management and reducing flood risk in one of Chennai’s rapidly developing corridors.

Semmancheri and the adjoining Old Mahabalipuram Road belt have witnessed steady real estate and infrastructure growth over the past decade. However, recurring monsoon challenges have highlighted the urgent need for integrated water management systems. The latest contract is expected to enhance local drainage capacity while supporting planned urban expansion.

RPP Infra, known for executing small to mid sized government infrastructure projects, operates across roads, bridges, buildings, power and water management segments. The company follows an engineering, procurement and construction model that ensures end to end project delivery. Government backed projects continue to form a significant portion of its order book, providing revenue visibility and operational stability.

The award of this flood mitigation project reflects the State’s continued focus on climate resilient infrastructure and proactive flood control planning. With urbanisation accelerating across Chennai’s southern suburbs, such investments are critical to safeguarding residential and commercial developments.

As infrastructure spending gains momentum in Tamil Nadu, projects that combine urban development with environmental resilience are expected to play a central role in shaping sustainable city growth.
