The Telangana government has taken a decisive step towards reviving Mamnoor Airport by handing over 300 acres of land required for the long-delayed civil aviation project. The move clears a major bottleneck and paves the way for restarting development activities that had remained stalled for several years despite earlier agreements.

The land transfer was formalised at Begumpet Airport, where Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka handed over the required land parcels to Minister of State for Civil Aviation Rammohan Naidu. With this, the Airports Authority of India is expected to move ahead with execution, bringing renewed momentum to the project.

The revival plan includes construction of a 2,500-metre runway, a modern air traffic control tower, fire and safety facilities, and other essential aviation infrastructure. Funding for the project will be provided by the Airports Authority of India, while the state government will continue to support coordination and statutory clearances.

Mamnoor Airport, located near Warangal, has long been viewed as a strategic asset for strengthening regional air connectivity in Telangana. Its revival is expected to improve access to the region, support passenger and cargo movement, and reduce dependence on Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport for short-haul travel.

State minister Konda Surekha said the project gained priority after the current Chief Minister assumed office, with the government pushing to revive key infrastructure initiatives that had remained on hold. Officials believe the airport will play a crucial role in supporting Telangana’s expanding aviation ecosystem and regional economic development.

Once operational, Mamnoor Airport is expected to boost investment, tourism, and business activity in and around Warangal and neighbouring districts. Improved air connectivity could also support industrial growth, educational institutions, and healthcare access in the region.

With land-related hurdles now resolved, stakeholders expect the project to move into the execution phase in the coming months. The revival of Mamnoor Airport marks another step in Telangana’s broader push to strengthen transport infrastructure and improve regional connectivity across the state.
