Namma Metro Phase 3 Tenders Mark Major Leap in Bengaluru’s Urban Mobility

Bengaluru’s mass transit ambitions received a major boost with Namma Metro floating the first tenders for Phase 3 of the project, marking the start of another critical expansion of the city’s metro network. Once completed, Phase 3 will significantly strengthen east west and north south connectivity, easing pressure on Bengaluru’s congested road network and supporting long term urban growth.

Implemented by Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited, Phase 3 will feature seven interchange stations, enhancing seamless travel across existing and upcoming metro corridors. With this phase, the total operational and planned length of the Bengaluru Metro is expected to reach 222 km by 2031, positioning it among the largest metro networks in India.

Urban planners see Phase 3 as a crucial link in Bengaluru’s evolving mobility ecosystem. The city has witnessed rapid expansion over the past decade, driven by IT parks, commercial hubs, residential townships and peripheral development. However, this growth has also resulted in mounting traffic congestion and longer commute times. The expansion of Namma Metro is viewed as a sustainable solution to balance economic growth with quality of life.

According to officials, the tenders floated now relate to core infrastructure works, signalling that execution will gather pace in the coming months. The focus in Phase 3 is not only on increasing route length, but also on improving integration with other modes of transport, including buses and future suburban rail services. Interchange stations are expected to play a key role in reducing last mile challenges and encouraging more commuters to shift from private vehicles to public transport.

The metro expansion is also expected to have a strong impact on Bengaluru’s real estate landscape. Areas along proposed Phase 3 corridors are likely to see increased demand for residential and commercial developments, with improved connectivity boosting land values and investor interest. Developers have consistently highlighted metro access as a key factor influencing homebuyer and tenant decisions.

As Bengaluru prepares for its next phase of urban transformation, Namma Metro Phase 3 represents more than just new tracks and stations. It reflects the city’s attempt to build resilient infrastructure that supports economic activity, reduces carbon footprint and improves everyday commuting for millions of residents. With tenders now in place, the focus shifts firmly to timely execution and delivery.
