Hosur Airport Project Gains Traction: 3,000 Acres Across 12 Villages to Be Acquired

The proposed Hosur airport project in Tamil Nadu’s Krishnagiri district is gaining momentum, with plans to acquire nearly 3,000 acres of land, including 800 acres of government-owned land, across 12 villages. The move aims to position Hosur as a major aviation and industrial hub in southern India, complementing the rapid growth of nearby Bengaluru.

According to official sources, the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO) and other government departments are coordinating efforts to fast-track land acquisition and project clearances. The airport is expected to cater to both passenger and cargo needs, significantly improving connectivity for industries in Hosur, Krishnagiri, and Dharmapuri districts.

Hosur, often referred to as the “Little Bengaluru,” has witnessed rapid industrial expansion in recent years. The region hosts major manufacturing units, including automotive, electronics, and logistics firms. With the proposed airport, the area could attract further investments and generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs.

Experts say the new airport will help decongest Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport, which currently handles more than its designed capacity. The Hosur airport will serve as a secondary aviation hub for the region, potentially connecting to domestic and short-haul international destinations.

The project also aligns with Tamil Nadu’s vision to strengthen regional air infrastructure under its industrial and logistics development plans. Improved air connectivity is expected to enhance export potential, reduce travel time for business commuters, and provide better access for the growing workforce in industrial corridors.

Once land acquisition and statutory clearances are complete, construction work is likely to begin in phases. The Hosur airport project stands as a key milestone in Tamil Nadu’s efforts to balance industrial growth with infrastructure expansion, setting the stage for a major economic transformation in the Krishnagiri region.
