Tata Steel, one of India’s leading steel producers, reported a 7% year-on-year growth in its crude steel production during the second quarter of FY26, reaching 5.67 million tonnes. The rise comes as operations normalised following the successful completion of relining work at one of its blast furnaces in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand.

According to the company’s regulatory filing, Tata Steel’s Q2FY26 production also grew 8% on a quarter-on-quarter basis, reflecting strong operational efficiency and stable demand conditions. The company’s India sales increased to 5.56 million tonnes in the same period, up from 5.11 million tonnes a year ago, supported by robust domestic demand across market segments despite the seasonal monsoon impact.

Tata Steel said it continues to strengthen its product portfolio through strategic expansion and capacity enhancement. The recently commissioned continuous galvanising line at Kalinganagar, Odisha, has received approvals from several original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), paving the way for enhanced product offerings in the automotive and infrastructure sectors.

Additionally, the company’s new combi mill in Kalinganagar has begun commercial production, focusing on specialty bars and wire rods for critical automotive applications. These developments underline Tata Steel’s continued efforts to move up the value chain with high-quality, customized steel solutions for industrial clients.

Industry analysts note that the improvement in Tata Steel’s domestic performance reflects a gradual recovery in India’s steel demand, driven by ongoing infrastructure investments, housing demand, and increased construction activity.

Globally, the Tata Steel Group remains among the top steel producers with an annual crude steel capacity of 35 million tonnes and a consolidated turnover of around USD 26 billion for FY25. With a strong presence across geographies, the company’s focus on innovation, sustainability, and value-added products continues to strengthen its leadership in the global steel industry.
