The Tamil Nadu government has unveiled an ambitious plan to establish a new international city across 2,000 acres in Madurantakam, located in Chengalpattu district. This mega project is expected to significantly boost urban development and position Tamil Nadu as a global destination for business, investment, and modern living.

According to reports, surveys were carried out in multiple districts including Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu, and Ranipet to assess potential sites. After detailed evaluation, Madurantakam in Chengalpattu was finalized as the primary location. A comprehensive report has already been submitted to the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation Limited (TIDCO), which is spearheading the initiative.

The proposed international city will be designed as an integrated hub equipped with all essential amenities such as housing, business districts, educational institutions, healthcare facilities, IT parks, and entertainment zones. The vision is to create a modern, self-sustaining urban ecosystem that caters to both global investors and local communities.

TIDCO has already floated tenders for preparing the masterplan of the project. This crucial step will define the city’s layout, infrastructure framework, and long-term development strategy. The masterplan is expected to align with international standards, focusing on sustainability, efficient land use, and smart-city technologies.

Madurantakam’s strategic location adds weight to the project. Being well-connected by road and rail, and in proximity to Chennai, the city has the potential to attract multinational companies, industries, and residential communities. This development is also expected to generate substantial employment opportunities and enhance real estate growth in the region.

Urban planners believe that such large-scale projects could reshape Tamil Nadu’s urban landscape, making it a competitive player among global investment destinations. For local residents, the city promises better infrastructure, lifestyle improvements, and greater economic activity.

With tenders already invited, the groundwork for this international city is firmly underway. Once completed, it will not only elevate Madurantakam’s prominence but also strengthen Tamil Nadu’s vision of becoming a global hub for integrated urban development.
