Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu approved the ₹1,000 crore of funding for building 2000 km of new roads throughout Andhra Pradesh. During a high-level review meeting of the Roads and Bridges Department, Naidu announced an additional appropriation of ₹500 crore for road damage repair, especially ahead of the monsoon and during the monsoon.

The Chief Minister has emphasized the importance of making repairs during rainfall and thus pressuring efficiency for officials, who have been informed of the development that nearly 20,000 km of roads have been made pothole-free.

Naidu directed that such details would be put online for ease of transparency and accountability. He has also mandated the installation of CCTV cameras every 50 km along the road network. Going forward, maintenance responsibilities will be handed over to contractors, along with stringent preventive measures to inhibit monsoon-related damage.

Andhra Pradesh currently has a total of 12,653 km of state highways. Of this, 10,200 km have been identified as appropriate for Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) development. The planned phased road development initiative is already in the pipeline:

  • Phase 1A which covers 18 roads of 1,332 km
  • Phase 1B includes 67 roads of 3,854 km
  • Phase 2 proposes 175 roads of 5,039 km

Two additional strategic roads, Yelamanchili to Gajuwaka and Gajulamandyam to Sri City (SEZ) will also be considered for construction under PPP. Together, these add another 115 km of critical infrastructure for road connectivity, beneficial to industrial purposes.

The state’s push for infrastructure in roads is part of a much bigger program in which the state will improve logistics, rural access, and industrial advancement. The comprehensive planning and focused execution will bring about the creation of a safer and more effective transport network across Andhra Pradesh.
