In a renewed push to revive development in Amaravati, the Andhra Pradesh government has allotted land to 10 institutions, while revising or cancelling earlier allocations to ensure only active and committed entities retain land in the capital region.
Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister P. Narayana announced the decision following the 18th Cabinet Sub-Committee meeting held at the Secretariat on Monday.
Among the revised allocations, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Geological Survey of India (GSI) will each receive 2 acres. The State Forensic Lab will get 5 acres, and the Andhra Pradesh Cooperative Bank will be allotted 3 acres.
Six new institutions have been granted land:
- Income Tax Department: 2 acres
- Andhra Pradesh Grameena Bank: 2 acres
- BJP Office: 2 acres
- Central Bank of India: 0.4 acres
- Intelligence Bureau: 0.5 acres
- Bureau of Immigration: 0.5 acres
Narayana said these institutions are expected to begin construction at the earliest. “So far, 884 acres have been allotted to 64 institutions. With today’s additions, we are ensuring that land is used by agencies that are ready to develop and operate in Amaravati,” he said.
At the same time, the state has cancelled land previously allotted to Gas Authority of India Ltd (GAIL) and Ambika Agarbatti, citing inaction on their part. These allotments were made between 2014 and 2019 but saw no progress.
The Minister blamed the earlier YSRCP government’s three-capital proposal for stalling institutional interest in Amaravati, leading to uncertainty and delayed development.
“The current government is committed to reviving Amaravati. We’re actively reviewing past allotments and reclaiming land from inactive parties to reallocate it to institutions that will move forward with construction,” Narayana said.
The revised land strategy marks a clear shift in the state’s approach to capital development—prioritising accountability and progress on the ground.
