Delhi Metro to Operate and Maintain Chennai Metro Phase 2

The DMRC was awarded the contract for the operation and maintenance of Chennai Metro’s ambitious expansion, spanning 118.9 km across three important corridors, under phase 2.

CHENNAI: The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) on Wednesday handed over the Letter of Acceptance to DMRC Managing Director Dr. Vikas Kumar. CMRL MD M.A. Siddique signed the pact, which comes as a major boost for Chennai’s growing urban transport grid.

Analysis of Phase 2 Corridors

The Phase 2 project consists of three corridors that will improve connectivity across the city:

Corridor 3: Running north to south, the Corridor, extends from Madhavaram Milk Colony to Siruseri Sipcot II via Perambur, Nungambakkam, Teynampet, Adyar, to Sholinganallur.

Corridor 4: Run from Lighthouse (Marina Beach) to Poonamallee Bypass, this line ensures seamless connectivity between central Chennai and western Chennai by connecting Mylapore, Kodambakkam, Vadapalani, Porur and Kumananchavadi.

Corridor 5: This corridor connects Madhavaram Milk Colony and Sholinganallur, passing Koyambedu, Alandur, and Velachery, and it would be a key east-west transit corridor.

Delhi Metro Employs DMRC Under ContractIt will manage all three corridors’ operations and maintenance for seamless metro services to the city.

DMRC’s well-versed metro management experience in this partnership will now be brought to Chennai, where it is expected to do wonders in improving the efficiency and quality of services as the city embarks on the expansion of its metro infrastructure.
