A big infrastructure upgrade will soon transform the face of Bengaluru when its longest flyover comes up connecting JP Nagar to Hebbal. Spread over 32.15 kilometres, this flyover will eliminate much of the chaos along the ORR western stretch as a road-cum-metro corridor in one stroke would ease much congestion on Bengaluru’s west-outer stretches between Ragigudda and Silk Board by having a similar structure to that now being put together in South Bengaluru.
Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar personally reviewed the proposal on Thursday by visiting key locations, including Hebbal, BEL Road, Summanahalli, and Goraguntepalya Junction. The visit to the sites speaks to the commitment of the government towards massive solutions in dealing with the traffic problem Bengaluru faces in everyday life.
Easier movement and improved connectivity to both the southern and northern ends will be enabled once the new corridor is built. The idea here is to provide an efficient alternative to the heavily congested ORR, which serves as a linkage for daily travel and commercial transport, with this project proposing a combination of road and metro infrastructure.
While specific timelines and project costs are yet to be disclosed, the plan reflects the government’s focus on expanding Bengaluru’s transportation network to keep pace with the city’s rapid growth. The flyover’s length and scale make it a landmark initiative, poised to significantly reduce travel time and enhance urban mobility.
Infrastructure works like this shape the future of the city and are a need for Bengaluru as it extends further. With the government working on integrated transport solutions, such a strategic approach towards sustainable urban planning is definitely in place.
