Flyers at Chennai Airport may soon see the end of ongoing construction woes, as the beautification work near the T1 domestic terminal is expected to be completed by the end of February 2025. This much-anticipated project started in 2023 and was to be completed by October 2024 but got delayed owing to site handover problems.
Airports Authority of India (AAI) considers the new look to make a pleasant travel and visit experience. The works were – landscaping, a new walkway, and a pleasant sitting area for individuals accompanying passengers. These improvements aim to offer visitors a place to relax and unwind before entering the terminal.
Despite the setbacks, AAI officials have confirmed that 90% of the work has been completed. The installation of a canopy is the final task, anticipated to be wrapped up next month. Once finished, the revamped area will cater to both passengers and visitors, offering a more pleasant waiting environment.
The project has also led to changes in the airport’s traffic flow to accommodate the construction. Adding to the enhancements, sources suggest that food and beverage outlets, along with other commercial amenities, will be introduced in the upgraded space.
However, not all frequent travelers are thrilled. A regular flyer expressed frustration, noting that while large projects may understandably face setbacks, smaller projects like the beautification work should have been completed on schedule. The continuous construction at the airport has caused inconvenience, and many believe timely completion of such projects would provide much-needed relief for passengers and visitors alike.
