Bengaluru’s KSR Railway Station, the busiest and the largest in Karnataka is all set for a massive upgrade to relieve congestion and accommodate the rising passenger demand from the city. The Rs 1,500-crore redevelopment plan not only enhances its capacity but introduces two new platforms at a cost of Rs 180 crore.
On Thursday, Minister of State for Railways, V. Somanna, laid out the ambitious plan of remodeling the station while providing millions of rail commuters who pass through the station year in and year out with a more modernized and efficient travel experience. The revamp features two additional platforms that will enhance train operations while streamlining passenger traffic flows. Currently, it spans 107 acres and offers 10 platforms, six stabling lines, and five pit lines; however, considering Bengaluru is experiencing a booming population along with the hike in travel needs, the currently existing infrastructure hasn’t been very able to tackle it.
Therefore, the upcoming development will cover the issue above while also making it possible for enough space to be developed further in future times. The state government has proposed the construction of two additional railway terminals as part of the efforts to meet the city’s surging travel needs. One is planned for Devanahalli, while the other will be located in either Nelamangala, Magadi, or Ramanagara. These new terminals are expected to further alleviate pressure on KSR Bengaluru and ensure better connectivity to different regions of the city and beyond.
This redeveloping initiative at KSR Bengaluru points out the government’s commitment to improving the infrastructure of urban transport and towards the betterment of the passengers. With these key projects, the railway system in Bengaluru is ready to serve the ever-growing population in the city and to become more modern and efficient as a transport hub.
