Approximately 70 percent of the entire station construction work from Poonamallee to Porur is completed in the Chennai Metro Rail Phase-II. The total length is 118.9 kilometers, and the three pillars are considered corridors consisting of Madhavaram to SIPCOT (Corridor 3) and Light House to Poonamallee (Corridor 4). Further, Phase II includes Madhavaram to Sholinganallur (Corridor 5), which will also be considered under three corridors to gradually come up in the city.

Completion by December is on schedule for the stretch from Poonamallee to Porur under Corridor 4. The nine-kilometre stretch, according to the CMRL officials, marks one of the largest milestones achieved to date, as they have reportedly completed 90% of the viaduct work and nearly 70% of the station work.

While there are some issues in certain stations such as Karayanchavadi and Kumananchavadi, the construction is being done at a rapid pace to be completed in time. The main changes in this phase are the reduction of station length from 230 meters planned to 140 meters. Two entry/exit points will be used in Phase-II stations instead of four in Phase-I, which is due to design change for efficiency and convenience.

This significant progress in the metro expansion is expected to greatly alleviate traffic congestion and improve public transport connectivity across Chennai, enhancing mobility for thousands of commuters once completed.
