Telangana Unveils Ambitious Plan: 200-Acre AI City to Propel Hyderabad as India’s AI Capital

Telangana’s Congress government, under Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, has announced an ambitious plan to transform Hyderabad into India’s AI capital through a 200-acre AI City project. This initiative marks a cornerstone of the “Telangana Rising” campaign as the state completes one year under the Congress regime.

The AI City aims to drive economic growth, improve governance, and enhance education by fostering innovation and attracting global tech companies, research institutes, and startups. Partnerships with tech giants like Microsoft, Nvidia, AWS, and academic institutions form the backbone of this initiative. A total of 26 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) have been signed, focusing on computing infrastructure, generative AI, data annotation, and skills development.

Telangana’s IT Minister Duddila Sridhar Babu emphasized, “This AI City will establish Hyderabad as a global hub for talent, investment, and transformative technologies.” The state plans to introduce AI education in 5,000 schools by 2027, train 20,000 teachers, and provide AI kits to benefit over 500,000 students, building a future-ready workforce.

In a major collaboration, Meta will support Telangana with open-source Generative AI tools, including the advanced Llama 3.1 model. This partnership is expected to enhance e-governance, improve public services, and drive economic opportunities. Telangana’s AI roadmap also includes appointing AI officers in government departments, creating data annotation hubs, and launching the Telangana Data Exchange Platform (TGDex) to boost innovation.

By 2027, the state aims to deliver AI-driven services to over 10 million citizens, focusing on healthcare, agriculture, and transportation. Measures to counter deepfakes and misinformation highlight Telangana’s commitment to ethical AI governance.

The government has also partnered with the World Trade Centre in Shamshabad to provide 200,000 square feet of office space for AI-focused enterprises, accelerating the AI City’s development. These initiatives align with Telangana’s vision of becoming a $3 trillion economy, cementing Hyderabad’s position as a global innovation leader.
