Vedanta Aluminium has announced the expansion of its billet production capacity at its Jharsuguda facility in Odisha, taking the total capacity to 8.3 lakh tonnes per annum. The Jharsuguda plant is recognised as the world’s largest aluminium manufacturing facility, and the latest expansion further consolidates its leadership in the sector.

The company stated that the enhanced capacity will strengthen its ability to meet rising domestic and global demand for high quality aluminium products. By expanding its billet output, Vedanta Aluminium aims to deepen its value added product portfolio while supporting India’s rapidly growing aluminium extrusion and downstream manufacturing sectors.

Billets are critical semi finished products that are widely used in extrusion processes to create precision engineered aluminium profiles. These profiles find applications across key industries such as infrastructure, transportation, renewable energy, power distribution, consumer durables, and packaging. With India witnessing sustained investments in infrastructure and clean energy, demand for advanced aluminium solutions is expected to grow steadily.

The company highlighted aluminium’s high strength to weight ratio, corrosion resistance, recyclability, and versatility as major advantages that make it suitable for modern engineering applications. Billets, in particular, play an essential role in enabling sustainable manufacturing practices and innovative design solutions across sectors.

Industry observers note that capacity additions in value added segments reflect a broader shift within the aluminium industry towards higher margin and technology driven products. By strengthening its billet capabilities, Vedanta Aluminium is positioning itself to capture emerging opportunities in both domestic and export markets.

The expansion is also expected to contribute to regional economic growth by supporting ancillary industries and generating employment opportunities. With this move, Vedanta Aluminium reinforces its long term commitment to building a robust and globally competitive aluminium ecosystem in India.
