UltraTech Cement announces the expansion of grinding capacity at its Karur facility in Tamil Nadu further bolstering its reach across South India. The firm has also planned for an MTPA (million tonnes per annum) slag-based grinding unit at its site, enhancing the overall manufacturing capacity.

This new expansion comes after a 2.7 million tons per annum (MTPA) greenfield grinding unit at the same site was commissioned in April 2024. With this addition, the overall capacity at the Karur plant now stands at 3.3 million tonnes per annum (MTPA).

This strategic initiative not only targets the growing demand for composite cement in the region but also enhances the company’s blended cement ratio, a significant aspect amidst the industry’s transition towards sustainable and energy-efficient construction materials.

This will take UltraTech’s overall grey cement manufacturing capacity in India to 166.91 MTPA. The company has a total global capacity of 172.31 MTPA after accounting for this domestic capacity along with its international operations, which adds 5.4 MTPA.

UltraTech said that this is in line with its overarching strategy of expanding its production network, optimizing its supply chain and fortifying its position as cement’s leading player. The company is committed to meeting the increasing demand for high-quality cement products and contributing to the region’s infrastructure development through its continuous capacity expansion efforts.
