Tiruchi’s Integrated Bus Terminus Nears Completion, Set for March 15 Deadline

The Integrated Bus Terminus (IBT) in Panjapur, which is long-awaited, would be ready on or before March 15, said Municipal Administration Minister K.N. Nehru. The minister, who held a review meeting at the site, said the new terminus will cater to mofussil bus services, while the existing Central Bus Stand and Chathiram Bus Stand will continue to render city bust operation.

Only minor works such as the installation of meters and bus schedule finalization remained, Mr. Nehru told reporters. Writer-2 assured that these tasks will be expedited to meet the deadline. Omnibuses will still run from the Central Bus Stand until a separate omnibus terminus is constructed.

The project was reviewed in detail by the minister with the officials of various departments including the Tiruchi City Corporation, Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation, Regional Transport Office, Tangedco, Water Supply Department, National Highways Authority of India, State Highways and Public Works Department. He ordered officials to expedite pending work to ensure the inauguration of the facility by March-end.

The IBT will be equipped with several modern amenities, including dedicated bus bays, passenger waiting spaces, sanitation complexes, surveillance cameras, LED display boards, lifts, escalators, and accessible pathways for persons with disabilities. Mr. Nehru also had told officials to improve public amenities like more toilets on the way to cater to the incoming passenger rush.

The entire project is a truck terminal and multi-utility facilities centre at an estimated cost of ₹492.55 crore. Mr. Nehru also checked the work on the new omnibus stand being constructed near the IBT and ordered the work to be completed on time.

The new terminus will decongest traffic in the city and provide better transport facilities to commuters in the capital, with the final phase of work underway.
