The Tamil Nadu Public Works Department (PWD) has issued a tender for the four-laning of the Thirukoilur-Asanur Road in Kallakurichi district. This project, spanning strategic sections from km 4/9 – 12/9 and km 19/9 – 28/8 on SH 137, aims to enhance connectivity and traffic flow in the region.

The planned upgrades include expanding the road from two to four lanes, incorporating essential infrastructure such as junction improvements, culvert widening and reconstruction, minor bridge expansion, center medians, drains, and retaining walls. Additionally, Paver blocks will be installed for increased durability and safety. The project is projected at a cost of Rs 86.55 crore and is expected to significantly reduce travel times while supporting economic activities along the route.

The Thirukoilur-Asanur road serves as a critical link within Tamil Nadu’s state highway network, facilitating regional trade and daily commuting for residents. The widening initiative is anticipated to improve road capacity and reduce congestion, benefiting the local communities and industries that rely on efficient transport corridors.

Contractors interested in participating in this significant infrastructure project are required to submit their bids by December 11, 2024. The awarded firm will be allotted a 15-month timeframe for project execution, with completion targeted for early 2026.

This road development aligns with Tamil Nadu’s broader efforts to upgrade transportation infrastructure, enhancing road safety, connectivity, and economic growth prospects across the state.
