The Telangana government has stepped up its efforts to accelerate the development of Warangal Airport, with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy urging the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation to complete the project in time for an inauguration on June 2, 2028. During a meeting with Union Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu in New Delhi, the Chief Minister highlighted the strategic importance of the airport in driving economic growth across northern Telangana.

According to the state government, land acquisition for the Warangal Airport project has already been completed, removing one of the biggest hurdles for implementation. The Chief Minister requested the Centre to invite tenders at the earliest and ensure that construction progresses without delays. He stressed that timely execution would help unlock the region’s industrial and commercial potential.

Warangal has emerged as an important economic centre with major infrastructure projects already taking shape. The city is home to the Kakatiya Mega Textile Park and the upcoming Kazipet Coach Factory while also benefiting from strong rail and road connectivity. The proposed airport is expected to complement these developments by improving passenger movement, supporting logistics and attracting fresh investments into the region.

The Telangana government has also proposed that the airport be developed with international-standard infrastructure. Besides passenger services, it has sought the inclusion of maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facilities, dedicated air cargo infrastructure and aircraft hangars. These additions are expected to enhance the airport’s commercial viability and support aviation-related industries in the state.

Alongside Warangal, the Chief Minister also requested the Centre to upgrade Adilabad Airport to international standards as part of a broader strategy to improve regional air connectivity. The proposed aviation infrastructure is expected to benefit districts including Warangal, Karimnagar, Adilabad, Khammam and Nalgonda by improving accessibility and creating new opportunities for businesses and industries.

If implemented on schedule, the Warangal Airport project could become a significant catalyst for industrial expansion, tourism, trade and employment, further strengthening Telangana’s long-term infrastructure development agenda.
