Telangana Government Earmarks Funds for Major Infrastructure Projects

The Telangana government is set to enhance infrastructure development with financial allocations for urban connectivity, drinking water supply, and urbanisation across the state.

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) will get ₹3,385 crore ($407 million). The “credit” relates to ₹635 crores ($76 million) for loans, ₹1,450 crores ($174 million) for developmental works, ₹1,000 crores ($120 million) for the Sunkishala Intake Project (under Krishna Drinking Water Supply Project, or KDWSP) and ₹300 crores ($36 million) for the supply of 20 KL free water scheme.

The Musi Riverfront Development is also going to get ₹1,500 crore ($180 million) for the beautification of the river and its surroundings, making the city more livable.

The Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) has also been allotted ₹1,100 crore ($132 million) for urban transport. Of this, ₹500 crore ($60 million) has been allocated for the expansion of Hyderabad Metro, ₹500 crore ($60 million) for extending metro connectivity to Old City and ₹100 crore ($12 million) for the Airport Metro project.

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has been allotted ₹700 crore ($84 million). Out of this, ₹200 crore ($24 million) will go towards Outer Ring Road (ORR) maintenance, while the rest of the ₹500 crore ($60 million) will be spent on development projects.

100 crore ($12 million) for HYDRAA, ₹63 crore ($7.6 million) for QQSUDA and ₹50 crore ($6 million) for the Multi-Modal Transport System (MMTS) among others.

Telangana government aims to facilitate infrastructure development and enhance urban mobility and water supply in Hyderabad and neighbouring cities with these investments. With the completion of these projects, the quality of life in various ways will be improved for the residents adding to the economic and urban development of the state.
