Tamil Nadu has secured a major investment commitment from Larsen & Toubro (L&T) with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) worth ₹18,600 crore for three large-scale projects across technology, manufacturing and renewable energy sectors. The agreement was signed at the Secretariat in Chennai in the presence of Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay.
The proposed investments include a Hyperscale and Edge AI Data Centre in Kancheepuram district, an electronics manufacturing hub in Coimbatore and an offshore wind infrastructure facility at Kattupalli in Tiruvallur district. Together, these projects are expected to create employment opportunities for around 8,200 people, including both direct and indirect jobs.
The largest investment under the agreement is the ₹15,000 crore AI data centre project planned in Kancheepuram. The facility is expected to strengthen Tamil Nadu’s position as a leading destination for digital infrastructure and advanced technology investments. The project is also expected to support the growing demand for artificial intelligence, cloud computing and data storage services.
In Coimbatore, L&T will invest ₹2,500 crore to establish an electronics manufacturing hub. The facility is expected to generate around 2,000 jobs and further enhance the state’s manufacturing ecosystem. Coimbatore continues to attract investments in engineering, electronics and industrial production due to its strong infrastructure and skilled workforce.
The third project involves an investment of ₹1,100 crore in offshore wind infrastructure at Kattupalli. The project is expected to create approximately 5,700 jobs and support the development of India’s renewable energy sector. Tamil Nadu already leads the country in renewable energy deployment, and the new investment is expected to strengthen its offshore wind capabilities.
The state government stated that these investments will contribute significantly to economic growth, industrial development and employment generation. The agreement also marks the first major industries-sector MoU signed after the new government assumed office, highlighting Tamil Nadu’s continued focus on attracting large-scale investments across high-growth sectors.
