Chief Minister M.K. Stalin is set to kick off a slew of infrastructure and welfare projects worth over ₹1,000 crore during a two-day visit to Trichy on May 8 and 9. The visit, packed with back-to-back government and party events, signals a strong poll push by the DMK in the region.

Stalin will touch down at Trichy airport around 11 am on May 8. First on the agenda is a government function at the Thiruverumbur Model School, followed by a high-level review meeting at the Circuit House near TVS Tollgate. Later that evening, he will pass through Puthur and Thillai Nagar to visit Kalaignar Arivalayam and will preside over a DMK meeting at 5 pm to assess election preparedness across Trichy’s assembly constituencies.

On May 9, Stalin will unveil a statue of social reformer Periyar E.V. Ramasamy at Panjapur. He will also lay the foundation stone for a ₹236-crore integrated vegetable market named after Periyar. In a major milestone for urban mobility, the CM will inaugurate the long-awaited Integrated Bus Terminus (IBT) named after former CM M. Karunanidhi and a new truck terminal named after C.N. Annadurai.

One of the key highlights of the visit will be a large-scale welfare event at Panjapur, where the government will distribute housing pattas to nearly 50,000 beneficiaries and welfare assistance amounting to ₹830 crore across departments. From housing to livelihoods, the state is looking to touch lives across every rung of the ladder.

With the visit around the corner, the DMK’s north, central, and south Trichy district units are pulling out all the stops. A joint working committee meeting has been scheduled for May 4 to coordinate the CM’s grand reception.

As Stalin rolls up his sleeves and gets boots on the ground, Trichy is all set for a whirlwind two days of development, welfare, and political firepower.
