Shyam Metalics Limited (SML) reported a 4% year-on-year growth in its stainless steel production in April 2025 at 7,149 mt, the company said in a statement on Thursday.
The Kolkata metal maker also reported a 7% growth in its average sales realisation from stainless steel, which was ₹135,846 per mt ($1,604/mt) in the month.
SML’s carbon steel production kept pace with the stainless steel segment’s growth with a 4% increase to 136,372 mt in April. Yet, the average realisation from carbon steel sales increased by just 0.51% year-on-year, suggesting relatively stable market pricing.
The company’s speciality alloy segment demonstrated the strongest growth, with production surging 32.6% to 19,945 mt in April. Even with the strong volume growth, speciality alloy average realisation fell 5.8% from April a year ago, indicating pricing stress in that sector.
SML’s recent production and sales numbers point to steady demand in its key segments, though pressure on realisations in some categories could be an indication of changing market dynamics.
