The state government’s latest efforts to get more micro, small, and medium enterprises are coming up easily in the shape of industrial estates, with at least five launched in the city recently by SIDCO. These are starting platforms for local entrepreneurs.

SIDCO developed industrial estates on land parcels in key districts in Tamil Nadu under this initiative. The estates include:

  • Vaiyavurr Industrial Estate in Kanchipuram (42 acres)
  • Cuddalar Gadampuliyur in Kanchipuram District (29 acres)
  • Tuticorin Lingam Patti (60 acres)
  • Tiruvarur Vandapalai (19 acres)
  • Tirunelveli Muthar (33 acres)

These estates are conceptualized to host a range of small and medium-sized industries thus providing all ready-to-use infrastructures such as roads, water supply, and electricity.

The five new industrial estates being undertaken by the Department of Small and Medium Enterprises have almost reached completion. According to him, the pricing for the plots was being set at rates that would be affordable for small and micro-entrepreneurs. The SIDCO executive committee has already approved the pricing. Allotments of the plots will commence within the next month, he said.

This forms part of the state government’s efforts toward establishing an enabling environment for MSMEs. Tamil Nadu’s employment generation and economy-building are to be highly dependent upon the MSMEs. To empower the entrepreneurs to start their units and increase the existing ones, SIDCO tries to provide cheaper lands and infrastructure facilities. It will thus contribute to the state’s industrial development.

This shall be expected to spur growth in a wide range of sectors; mainly job opportunities and boost the local economies in the districts.
