Korean manufacturer Samhyun has strengthened its presence in India’s rapidly expanding electric mobility sector by purchasing 11 acres of industrial land from Tata Chemicals in Sriperumbudur, one of Tamil Nadu’s most established automotive and electronics manufacturing corridors. The new facility will focus on producing advanced electric vehicle motor components, supporting both domestic and export-focused supply chains in the coming years.
The land transaction was facilitated by global real estate consultancy JLL, which acted as the exclusive transaction advisor. In its statement, JLL highlighted that the deal marks another strong indicator of sustained interest in industrial land around Chennai, particularly from global mobility and engineering companies. Sriperumbudur, already home to several multinational OEMs and Tier-1 suppliers, continues to attract new investment due to its connectivity, logistics infrastructure and skilled workforce availability.
Samhyun, founded in 1988, specialises in smart actuators, smart power units and integrated drive systems used across next-generation mobility platforms. The company supplies key components to electric cars, autonomous vehicles, electric ships, urban air mobility systems, robotic applications, defence technology and modern agricultural equipment. With India emerging as a major EV manufacturing hub, the company’s expansion aligns with broader industry momentum and rising expectations for high-quality localised production.
The new manufacturing unit in Sriperumbudur is expected to boost the electric mobility ecosystem in Tamil Nadu by creating new opportunities for component suppliers, tooling manufacturers, logistics operators and ancillary industries. Industry experts note that several Korean and Japanese manufacturers have been actively increasing their footprint in the region, driven by policy support, strong demand projections and the state’s established automotive heritage.
While Samhyun has not disclosed the financial value of the land transaction, the strategic importance of acquiring a sizeable 11-acre parcel in a prime industrial zone signals the company’s long-term commitment to India. The project further reinforces Tamil Nadu’s position as a preferred EV manufacturing destination and enhances Chennai’s reputation as one of India’s strongest electric mobility clusters.
