Traffic diversions besides the RBI subway come into force from Sunday as Southern Railway embarks upon its critical road infrastructure development for the future. According to officials, Chennai Traffic Police aims at fast-tracking the project and reducing inconvenience to motorists.

Vehicles coming from Royapuram Bridge and Rajaji Salai towards Kamarajar Salai will not be allowed through the RBI subway. Instead, all these vehicles would need to follow a diversion route via RBI subway service road, North Fort Road, R A Mandram, Muthuswamy Salai, Dr Muthuswamy bridge, Wallajah Point, Flagstaff Road, entering finally at Kamarajar Salai near the war memorial.

However, vehicles traveling from Kamarajar Salai towards Parry’s Corner can continue using the RBI subway as before, without any diversions. Police have advised motorists to plan their journeys accordingly and coordinate with them through construction to ensure a smooth flow of traffic.

According to a senior police official,” The diversion plan is meant to avoid bottlenecks and improve convenience to the public This would facilitate Southern Railways in the expeditious and effective completion of road works”.

The authority would hence deploy proper signage across strategic locations, with personnel on board at vantage points, making sure motorists have the right advice on the alternate routes. The authorities have thus appealed to the public to cooperate in helping control congestion and ensuring safety during peak hours.

The interim traffic arrangement is assumed to be effective till the completion of road work. A motorist needs to remain updated about traffic advisories while following directions set by on-ground staff for a hassle-free travel experience.
