In a significant move to modernise infrastructure delivery in India, the government has launched the PRISM-SG portal, a digital platform designed to streamline approvals and inspections for Road Over Bridges. The initiative marks a major step towards faster project execution, improved transparency, and better coordination across multiple agencies involved in infrastructure development.
The PRISM-SG portal introduces a fully integrated digital workflow that replaces time-consuming manual processes. Traditionally, approvals related to bridge construction, especially those involving steel girders, required multiple clearances and often took close to 12 months. With the introduction of this platform, the approval timeline is expected to be reduced to just three to four months, significantly accelerating project execution.
One of the key highlights of the portal is its end-to-end digital functionality. It enables online submission of documents, automated scrutiny, real-time query resolution, and digital approvals. Inspection scheduling, report uploads, photographs, and test results can now be managed seamlessly within a single system. This ensures complete transparency and provides a clear audit trail for every stage of the project.
Earlier, while certain approvals such as General Arrangement Drawings and structural clearances were handled digitally, critical processes like Quality Assurance Plans, welding specifications, and fabrication inspections remained largely offline. This gap often resulted in delays, miscommunication, and inefficiencies. The PRISM-SG portal addresses this issue by bringing all stakeholders onto a unified platform.
The system integrates road-owning departments, Indian Railways, contractors, fabricators, and inspection agencies, enabling smoother coordination and faster decision-making. It also strengthens quality control by digitising key technical processes and ensuring better monitoring at every stage.
With thousands of Road Over Bridges required across the country to ease congestion and improve connectivity, this initiative is expected to play a crucial role in enhancing infrastructure delivery. By reducing delays and improving efficiency, the PRISM-SG portal aligns with the government’s broader push towards digital governance and data-driven project management.
