The stretch of 85 km of National Highway-765 from Tukkuguda, near Hyderabad, to Dindi via Kalwakurthy is being improved with the preparation of a Detailed Project Report (DPR) by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. This was confirmed by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari in Rajya Sabha while responding to the query raised by Congress MP M. Anil Kumar Yadav.

The proposed improvement will widen this mainly used temple-cum-tourist-travel corridor, in which one of the most famous street routes leads to the historic Sri Bhramaramba Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple in Srisailam, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas and one Shakti Peetham in India. On completion, road widening is expected to bring down travel time between Hyderabad and Srisailam from close to five hours to about four.

A consultant has already been appointed to prepare the DPR, which will approve the widening of the existing two-lane road into a state-of-the-art four-lane highway. Local traffic will be greatly alleviated towards smooth movement of traffic with the creation of bypasses around the Amangal and Kadthal villages, said the officials.

According to Gadkari, an ongoing process in itself is the development of highways, where projects are preferably executed based on traffic demand, strategic importance, and alignment with the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan. Therefore, the NH-765 scheme now becomes an important part of the larger vision of building faster, safer, and more reliable infrastructure toward a better regional connectivity through religious tourism.

This is considered to be a great leap ahead in transportation infrastructure development for Telangana, especially for the southern parts of Hyderabad. It further complements the central government’s plan to assist access to religious and cultural sites all over the country while also economically boosting such regions through an enhanced road network.
