Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has strengthened its position in India’s industrial infrastructure sector after securing multiple engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contracts from leading public and private sector companies in the metals and mining industry.
The latest order wins cover iron ore handling, steel plant expansion and zinc processing projects, highlighting continued investments in India’s mineral and manufacturing ecosystem as the country works towards expanding production capacity and improving industrial competitiveness.
One of the key contracts has been awarded by India’s largest iron ore producer for the development of an 18 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) Iron Ore Handling Plant in Chhattisgarh. The project forms part of the company’s long-term strategy to increase its iron ore production capacity to 100 MTPA by 2030.
Under the contract, L&T will undertake the design, engineering, procurement, installation and commissioning of critical infrastructure, including a downhill conveyor system, screening plant, stockyard facilities, yard equipment, a Rapid Wagon Loading System and associated auxiliary systems.
In another significant development, L&T has secured multiple design and build as well as balance of plant packages for the expansion of a major public sector steel plant in West Bengal. The project aims to increase steel production capacity from 2.5 MTPA to 7.1 MTPA, supporting India’s growing demand for steel across infrastructure, construction and manufacturing sectors.
The company has also received an EPC order from a leading private sector metals producer for a zinc processing plant. The scope includes engineering, procurement, installation, commissioning and associated site services, further strengthening L&T’s expertise in delivering complex non-ferrous metallurgy projects.
These latest contracts reflect sustained capital expenditure in India’s metals and mining sector, driven by infrastructure development, manufacturing growth and the government’s focus on expanding domestic industrial capacity. With decades of experience in executing large-scale EPC projects, L&T continues to play an important role in delivering critical industrial assets that support the country’s long-term economic growth. The new orders are also expected to reinforce the company’s leadership in engineering excellence while contributing to the development of world-class metals and minerals infrastructure across India.
