During the Tamil Nadu Assembly session, HR&CE Minister PK Sekarbabu said Chennai’s long-awaited Kuthambakkam bus terminus is scheduled to be opened before June or July. The facility, which is coming up at a cost of ₹414 crore by the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA), is in its final stages. It will be declared open by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin once it is ready.

The terminus would serve long-distance buses heading toward western districts, relieving congestion at the city’s existing facilities.

Sekarbabu also announced that new bus termini are coming up for ₹97 crore in Chengalpattu and ₹90 crore in Mahabalipuram, in line with the Kuthambakkam project. The CMDA is also carrying out improvement works in nine other city bus stands, as part of measures to improve the public transport system in Chennai.

Delivering a push for entrepreneurship and education for the youth coming from low-income backgrounds, the government will set up 15 Mudhalvar Padaippagam (co-working and learning centres) around the city in Kodambakkam, Ambattur among others. Thirteen centres will come up in North Chennai, at an overall project cost of ₹40 crore.

This is after the successful establishment of a similar hospital in Kolathur in November 2024. The Kolathur Padaippagam, which offers co-working desks, e-learning zones and conference facilities, is used by more than 6,000 students and young professionals every month.

The government is also going ahead with the construction of a ₹30-crore modern-libraries state-of-the-art public library at Prakasam Road in Broadway under its efforts toward education and youth development. The library will have an internet-enabled work area dedicated to aspirants of competitive exams.

Five playgrounds in the city will also be upgraded to promote sporting talent and create recreational space for the citizens at an estimated cost of ₹37 crore.

The government wants to improve the infrastructure of Chennai, its educational ecosystem, and public amenities holistically through these developmental initiatives.
