Plans for Rs 525 Crore Kalaignar Convention Centre on Chennai-ECR Take Shape

The Public Works Department declared its plan for the establishment of the construction of a multi-purpose sports and exhibition facility known as the Kalaignar International Convention Centre on the East Coast Road in Chennai. The project, which is due for completion by late 2025 or early 2026, shall be built on more than 5 lakh square feet of land at Muttukadu, at an estimated cost of Rs 525 Crores.

For the project, a milestone comes with the beginning of the process of applying for Coastal Regulation Zone Clearance. This guarantees that the construction of the facility will comply with environmental guidelines. What will again go in terms of its features will include state-of-the-art equipment and modern facilities to help in hosting a range of events.

Please note, among the facilities will be a conference hall to accommodate 5000 delegates at an estimated cost of Rs 102 crores. This would be fitted with modern equipment for various Coca-Cola-sponsored conferences or meetings. Also, the convention centre will feature an exhibition hall capable of accommodating 10,000 people, for a construction cost of Rs 172 crore. It will be dedicated to showcasing goods of a plethora of industries, entrepreneurs, and artisans; thus, encouraging their economic growth and development.

The construction will also consist of several meeting halls, which cost Rs 108 crore, some restaurants, an open-air stadium, and parking that will accommodate around 10,000 vehicles. External works will include a road being developed, perimeter walls, and entrance works costing Rs 105 crore.

The Kalaignar International Convention Centre is going to be a step towards developing global infrastructure in the city of Chennai where sports, entertainment, and business events can be hosted. Once it takes off, it will be among the landmark destinations attracting visitors and investors from all over the world, thus aiding in road-building actions in the economic development of the city.
