JSW Steel Reports 9% Rise in Crude Steel Production Despite Vijayanagar Furnace Shutdown

JSW Steel, one of India’s largest and most diversified steel producers, has reported a 9% year-on-year increase in its consolidated crude steel production for October 2025, reaffirming its operational strength and resilience amidst ongoing capacity expansion initiatives.

According to the company’s production report, JSW Steel produced 24.95 lakh tonnes of consolidated crude steel during October 2025, up from the same period last year. Despite the temporary shutdown of Blast Furnace 3 at the Vijayanagar facility for a major capacity upgrade, the company maintained a healthy 83% capacity utilization across its Indian operations. Excluding the capacity of the offline blast furnace, utilization levels reached an impressive 92%, underscoring the company’s efficient production management.

The furnace shutdown is part of JSW Steel’s ongoing expansion plan to increase its output capacity. Blast Furnace 3 is being upgraded from 3.0 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) to 4.5 MTPA, and is expected to resume production by February 2026. This upgrade aims to enhance the company’s ability to meet the growing domestic and international demand for steel in infrastructure, automotive, and construction sectors.

In addition to its domestic performance, JSW Steel USA – Ohio contributed 0.55 lakh tonnes to the total production, further strengthening the company’s global footprint. Overall, JSW Steel currently operates with a consolidated steel-making capacity of 35.7 MTPA, including 34.2 MTPA in India and 1.5 MTPA in the United States.

The company’s ability to sustain growth during a major plant shutdown reflects its strong supply chain integration, flexible operations, and commitment to continuous improvement. As the upgraded furnace comes online in early 2026, JSW Steel is well-positioned to expand its production capacity and reinforce its leadership in India’s fast-growing steel industry.
