JSW Steel Limited reported a consolidated year-on-year growth of 8% in its crude steel production for May 2025 to 2.273 million metric tonnes (mt), based on a company statement issued on Monday.

Domestic units contributed the lion’s share of the production, with JSW’s India units contributing 2.194 million mt—representing a 9% rise over last year’s corresponding month. Meanwhile, JSW Steel USA in Ohio had a 7% drop in production at 79,000 mt.

Average capacity utilization was at 80% for the month, which was hampered by a maintenance shutdown at its Dolvi mill. Operations of the facility resumed on May 30.

In the first two months of the ongoing fiscal year (April–May FY26), JSW Steel’s combined crude steel production was 4.756 million mt, 13% higher than in the same two months of last year.

JSW Steel, a leading Indian steelmaker and flagship company of the $23 billion JSW Group, has been increasing its capacity to meet increasing domestic and overseas demand.

The May production rise reflects the company’s shift to expand operations and boost output intensity in the face of near-term operational constraints. The domestic pick-up also reflects robust steel demand from industries such as infrastructure and construction, which have a large supply presence of JSW.

The company’s performance is consistent with the general trend across the Indian steel industry, which has experienced steady output expansion under the backdrop of rising capital spending on public infrastructure and private sector investment.
